Ratings: ‘Idol’ Live Telecast Brings Some Magic With Biggest Sunday Audience Since ABC Premiere
“American Idol” got a sprinkle of pixie dust on its Sunday ratings thanks to its first-ever live telecast. The latest installment of ABC’s reboot saw a lift on “Disney Night” and won both its time slot and crowned its broadcaster winner in primetime Nielsen numbers.
From 8-10 p.m., “Idol” scored a 1.8 rating/7 share in the key 18-49 range and an average of 8 million total viewers — its biggest audience since its Sunday premiere on March 11 — which its live broadcast on the East Coast and rebroadcast in the Western United States.
However, due to the nature of simulcast programs, its important to note these numbers are expected to increase when the original 5-7 p.m. telecast on the West Coast is included in official national ratings.
