House Republican joins lawmakers not seeking re-election
DOVER, Del. (AP) — Republican state Rep. Joe Miro has added himself to the list of Delaware lawmakers opting not to seek re-election this year.
The 71-year-old lawmaker announced his retirement on the House floor Thursday, saying that, after 20 years, it's time for someone else to represent his Newark-area district.
Miro, a native of Cuba, is a retired teacher and former member of New Castle County Council.
Miro is one of eight incumbents in the 62-member General Assembly who have announced that they will not seek re-election in November. The list consists of three House Democrats, two Senate Democrats, two House Republicans and one GOP senator, including the Senate's Democratic majority leader and GOP minority leader.
