Mountain lion cub spotted near UC Berkeley
Another mountain lion was spotted Wednesday near the UC Berkeley campus.
Campus police said a university employee was walking on a path between the Bowles and Foothill parking lots above the main campus around 5 p.m. when she saw a mountain lion cub, which immediately ran away.
Police said mountain lions have been seen several times in recent years in the hills above campus, along with carcasses of other animals.
For protection, officers recommend not hiking or jogging alone in those areas, especially at night, and carrying a walking stick when you hike. Hikers who encounter mountain lions are advised not to approach them and instead to give them a chance to escape.
