Senate passes tax bill, sends plan back to the House
WASHINGTON — The Senate passed a $1.5 trillion tax bill early Wednesday morning on a 51-48 party-line vote, putting Republicans on the brink of their first major legislative victory in the Trump era.
The vote followed House approval of the tax measure Tuesday, on a 227-203 vote, but an embarrassing glitch in the bill discovered hours later forced a new vote for Wednesday that is unlikely to change the outcome. Once approved, the bill will be sent to President Trump for his signature, handing Republicans their long-sought goal to slash corporate taxes and rewrite the corporate tax code.
