HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard has helped rescued 42 people who abandoned their fishing vessel after it caught fire. The fishing crew boarded two life rafts, three work boats and one skiff as they left the 258-foot American Eagle.

IMPERIAL, Pa. (AP) — Pittsburgh International Airport officials plan to announce new nonstop destinations and say the new flights will also add jobs to the region. They've called a news conference for Thursday morning to announce the additions. The airport has added 14 nonstop destinations in the last 13 months, meaning the airport now serves 53 destinations with nonstop flights. Officials haven't said how many, or what kind, of jobs will be added when the new flights are announced. The airline involved has also not been publicly identified.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Fewer Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week in a sign of a stable job market despite the slowing global economy hitting stocks and commodities. The domestic economy appears to have withstood the pressures created by a slowing Chinese economy, fragile growth in Europe and a meltdown in developing economies such as Brazil, Russia and Venezuela. Retailers and restaurants accounted for roughly two-thirds of the net job gains last month, while wage growth has accelerated over the past year.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Weekly applications for US unemployment benefits fall to 269,000, a positive sign for hiring.

"The odd-and-even scheme has proved that the city needs curbs on high traffic volume to pull down peaking of pollution, reduce congestion that further increase emissions, and cut direct exposure to toxic vehicular fumes," it said. India's top court also this month set the terms for pollution control in and around New Delhi __ advancement of Euro VI emissions standards, augmentation of public transport, closure of a coal-based power plant and stronger action on waste burning, construction dust and road dust.

LONDON (AP) — The red carpet for the BAFTA Film Awards doesn't roll out until the weekend but behind the scenes preparations are well underway for the annual star-studded event in London. Among the winners already announced — Angels Costumes will collect the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award; and Sidney Poitier will be honored with the BAFTA Fellowship.

The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners voted 7-0 Tuesday to finalize a partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation and move forward with the first phase of a $600,000 environmental assessment. The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/1TUqgIG ) reports the first phase of the environmental study would be done by end of December 2017 and have finer estimates for construction, capital and operating costs.

LONDON (AP) — The British government is under pressure to amend a contentious Internet surveillance bill after a parliamentary committee said plans to make service providers retain all users' data have not been adequately thought through. If approved by Parliament, the Investigatory Powers Bill will give police and spies broad powers to obtain Internet connection records — a list of websites, apps and messaging services someone has visited, though not the individual pages they looked at or the messages they sent. WASILLA, Alaska (AP) — Another low snow year in Alaska is playing havoc with the world's most famous sled dog race, at least for the start. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race always begins with a ceremonial, fan-friendly slow jaunt through the streets and trails of Anchorage, held a day before the start of the competitive portion of the nearly-thousand mile race. (AP) — U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx says the government's fiscal year 2017 budget includes $75 million for construction of the Tempe Streetcar Project. The three-mile streetcar line will serve the historic downtown Tempe area, connecting the city's government and financial center to Arizona State University and nearby residential neighborhoods.

Societe General blamed a rise in regulatory capital requirements and "the economic and financial environment" as it abandoned a long-held target of 10 percent return on equity by the end of 2016. Societe Generale shares tumbled at the open of the Paris stock exchange and were down 13 percent at 27.26 euros in morning trading.

(AP) — Abortion opponents in Mississippi, West Virginia and several other states are filing bills to ban an abortion procedure commonly used in the second trimester that opponents describe as dismembering a fetus. The New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights, which represents abortion providers in legal fights, says banning the dilation and evacuation method of abortion — commonly called "D&E" — is unconstitutional because it interferes with private medical decisions. HELSINKI (AP) — Nokia saw fourth quarter profit grow more than 50 percent to 498 million euros ($560 million) on a slight increase in sales, but the telecom networks company cautioned it would face some "market headwinds," especially in China. Nokia said it booked a gain of $2.5 billion euros from the sale of its mapping services to leading auto companies, Audi, BMW and Daimler, completed in December and reported it as discontinued operations. BERLIN (AP) — Emergency workers are working with two huge cranes to remove the wreckage of a head-on train crash that killed 10 people and injured dozens in southern Germany. The cranes, equipped with railway wheels, were positioned at both ends of the crashed trains to remove debris.

Nonetheless, some were resisting the legislation because of trade provisions and a long-running dispute over a separate proposal on taxing online sales to consumers. (AP) — A sheriff's deputy and a civilian pilot helping with the arrest of a man in Central California were killed when their single-engine plane crashed near Springville in Tulare County, authorities said. Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux confirmed Deputy Scott Ballantyne and pilot James Chavez died when the two-seater plane crashed and burst into flames after hitting the side of a mountain.
