New South Wales government accused of ignoring Royal Commission recommendations
Egos, turf wars and incompetence are being blamed on the catastrophically slow response times that have left thousands of lives ruined in northern New South Wales.
The state government has been accused of ignoring the urgent recommendations of a Royal Commission into Australia's natural disaster response agencies.
Sky News Australia has spoken to those residents of flood-devastated Lismore who feared the worst only to witness their predictions become reality on a tragic scale.
The Lismore Citizens Flood Review Group in a submission to the natural disasters Royal Commission said the experienced local SES team was sidelined and critical decision making was not made with local input.
The group also found their attempts to work with SES headquarters were often rebuffed and those who tried to solve issues were branded as “troublemakers” and ignored.
