Nigerians are always at the receiving end of series of attacks in other countries. If locals are attacking foreigners in their country, Nigerians must be among those attacked.
Nigerians are blamed for almost every bad thing that happens in other countries.
They have been attacked in South Africa and the most recent happened on Monday, , March 27, when some Nigerian students were attacked by a mob inside a shopping mall in Nodia.

However, back in Nigeria, foreigners are treated like ‘gods’.
The Hindu.com had a chat with some Indians living in Nigeria on Friday, March 31 and they strongly condemned the attacks.

The Nigerian students were shopping in a local mall when they were attacked
Arunraj Muruganandam, who has been based in Lagos for the last 15 years said: “I was deeply disturbed by the attacks on the Nigerian students in India. But I feel Indians mistreat the Africans anyway. Their conception about Africa and Africans is wrong.
“There has never been a case where an African has mistreated a foreigner in their country. The whole fact that we somehow feel we are superior to them is very uncomforting.”

According to him, he has felt more at home in Nigeria.
Another Indian who has been living in Abuja for over two decades, 51-year-old Sanjeev Purwar, said Nigerians are mostly good people.
He wondered why Indians can’t tolerate other people at a time they are being accepted globally and instead resorted to violence while adding that every society in the world has a different culture and people must learn to appreciate it.

Many have condemned the attacks on Nigerians by Indians
Purwar recalled how Indians living in Nigeria were harassed back in 2013 after a Nigerian was reportedly killed in Goa, saying “it was one rare such happening here.”
Also speaking, another Indian identified as Gulrez Singh, who is based in Port Harcourt said such attacks were due to the “backwards mentality” of some people.

Expressing sympathy for Nigerians, he said he was embarrassed over the unfortunate incidents taking place in India.
“The thinking of some Indians is backwards and racist...A random black man automatically becomes a drug lord. This needs to stop but how to make people aware of it I do not know,” Singh added.

Meanwhile, the Indian Cultural Association in Nigeria, in a letter to India’s High Commissioner to Nigeria B N Reddy on Wednesday, condemned the attack, saying “your own countrymen are respected in these African countries always and such incidents and unruly behaviour may change their perspective towards us.”

The attacks on Nigerians by Indians were prompted by the death of a 19-year-old India student who died of a suspected drug overdose. Nigerians were accused of giving the victim, Manish Khari, the drugs.
Indian authorities have on ordered an investigation into the attack and no fewer than five persons involved in the violence have been arrested.
