Warriors’ Stephen Curry Q&A: ‘We have things to play for’
The Warriors are on a nine-game winning streak, own a 3-½ game lead on the Spurs for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and play six of their last seven regular-season games at Oracle Arena.
Time for these guys to exhale, right?
Curry made it clear the Warriors wouldn’t be coasting into tonight’s meeting against the Rockets.
“I mean, we have to still understand that we have things to play for,” Curry said.
Not just for seeding, but the momentum you want to build as you go through the playoffs.
Curry said the Warriors set the tone for tonight this morning with a lively shootaround.
“It is human nature - it could be expected to be a dud of an hour on the floor, coming home and maybe taking the foot of the gas pedal,” Curry said.
Being around eight years, you can just feel what’s a good shootaround and what’s not.
With (Patrick McCaw), Matt Barnes, Ian (Clark) filling in those minutes and doing a great job of it.
There’s things we still need to work on going into the playoffs and, hopefully, we can do that at full strength because (Durant) will be back.
Much of the transition back for him will be just him getting his legs underneath him because he’s missed so much time.
What do you make of the Rockets breaking the Warriors’ three-point record last night?
Is that the type of record that will fall every year the way the NBA is going?
If a team has the talent and have shooting threats around the court, it definitely could be something that is pushed further and further.
Is there a sense that the finish line is right there and you want to sprint through it?
Yeah, I mean we have to still understand that we have things to play for.
Not just for seeding, but the momentum you want to build as you go through the playoffs.
Do you have to guard against a letdown after a tough back-to-back on the road and now you’re home?
Yeah, but knowing our guys and how we approached shootaround this morning, I have a hard time thinking we’ll have that mentality coming in.
How do you evaluate an impressive shootaround?
If we play good defense, and we end a possession without fouling, force them to make tough shots and not let them slow the game down and get to the free-throw line …
