Up north, the Russian River continued to rise Monday morning after hitting flood stage on Sunday, causing major flooding in several neighborhoods.
Local officials expected up to 550 homes to experience flooding.
Residents in low-lying areas around Monte Rio and Guerneville were ordered to evacuate before the river broke its banks Sunday.
The storm system moving in Tuesday was expected to drop an inch or 2 of rain on the Bay Area and up to 4 inches in the North Bay and Santa Cruz mountains, said Steve Anderson, a National Weather Service forecaster.
[...] on the shoreline, King Tides between 6 and 7 feet were expected to flood the usually vulnerable areas: along the Embarcadero in San Francisco and on some roads in Sausalito and Tiburon.
