– The police authorities said it would not condone acts that tarnish its image and carried out by its men paid to protect lives and properties

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has paraded 14 of its officers for allegedly assisting armed robbers and cattle rustlers with guns and other ammunition.
Some of those paraded included ASP Yuguda Abbah, Sgt Habila Sarki, Diphen Nimmyel, Sgt Yasan Danda, Sgt Abbas Mailalle, Sgt Bwanason Tanko, Sgt Donan James, CPL Idris Salisu, CPL Zakari Kofi.

At a press conference organised by the police on Tuesday, November 22, DCP Don N Awunah, the force spokesperson, explained that the arrest of the police officers led to the arrest of the principal suspects whose names were given as Mayo Chadi Aliyu, Atiku Ibrahim, Ali Mohammed, Abdulrahman Umar, Umar Daudu, Ibrahim Umar, Ibrahim Mallam, Adamu Lolo, Suleiman Buba, Ahmed Adamu, GidadoGarba, Sani Dan Alhaji.

The others are: Inusa Mohammed, Mohammed Wari, Mohammed Rabiu, HammaduAbdullahi, Umar Adamu, Idi Juye, and Yusuf Abdullahi.
The police said it recovered 14 AK 47 rifles with numbers intact, three other AK 47 rifles with numbers etched out, one pump action, locally made pistol, 42 empty magazines, 363 rounds of AK 47 live ammunition, 71 K2 live ammunition, 25 live cartridges.

“In the month of October, 2016 one Alhaji Hodi Adamu, a notorious armed robbery suspect was arrested by the police in Adamawa state.

“The suspect’s confession led to the arrest of two other suspects namely: Rabo Bello and Oliver Honiol whose voluntary confessions led to the arrest of the nine police personnel mentioned above for various roles they played through their actions and inactions which are considered as disciplinary infractions.
“The principal suspects and the dismissed police officers will soon be charged to court,” the police authority said.

The police also announced the arrest of a “vicious kidnapper” and four policemen for aiding and abetting them in Kogi state.

The police named the kidnapper as Zakari Ya’uIsiaka while the police officers were given as Sgt Musbahu Yahaya, Sgt Ugenlo Sylvester, Sgt Musa Umar and CPL Omale Edicha.
Awunah said one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, one Baretta rifle, one assault rifle, 10 7.62mm life ammunition, two k2life ammunition; two AK-47 magazines; three (3) K2 magazines; and two G3 magazine were recovered.
“On the 16th of August, 2016 four policemen mentioned above serving with the Kogi state command were arrested for compromising and conspiring with one Zakari Ya’uIsiaka, a notorious armed robber, kidnapper and murderer who has been on the wanted list of the police in Kogi state.

“The suspect confessed to having been actively involved in many armed robberies, kidnappings and murder cases within Kogi and other north-central states.
“Five assorted rifles and different calibers of ammunition were recovered from the suspect and other members of his gang. The dismissed policemen were interrogated and found to have conspired and compromised their call to duty,” he said.

In Ogun state, SGT Laibi Opakeba was arrested for supplying explosives to one Abiodun Amos.
The police said Opakegba was intercepted discussing with Abiodun Amos on how to source and supply red dynamite to militants.

“The said Abiodun Amos, a 43 year old militant who is a native of Ese-Odo local government area of Ondo state was arrested at the bank of Majidun River in Ikorodu area of Lagos state while in possession of two AK-47 rifles. He named other members of his militant group.
“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) wishes to acknowledge and commend the patriotic and tireless police officers who are making sure that Nigeria is safe and secure especially at the flash points of the north-east, north-central and south-south (Niger Delta). Their sacrifices will not go in vain; they will be adequately rewarded,” he said.
