Czech Parliament has not yet initiated Armenian Genocide recognition
“President of Czech Republic Milos Zeman discussed the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition during the meetings with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs first and then with Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies,” the Ambassador said, adding that “there has not been any practical initiative on the agenda of Czech government and the Parliament on this issue since then”.
The Ambassador emphasized that this does not mean that there is no such an initiative right now.
Petr Mikyska reminded that the President of Czech Republic does not have a right to come up with legislative initiatives and “he can only express his position on this issue and suggest certain steps”.
Mediamax reminds that President of Czech Republic Milos Zeman stated during the official visit to Armenia this year that he will encourage the Parliament and the government on his arrival in Prague to follow Germany’s example and approve the resolution, recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide.
