Armenia’s publishing sector needs remodeling, says minister
Armenia’s minister of culture on Thursday shared his vision on developing the publishing industries, agreeing that the sector needs a total revision.
“We need to revise the sector by creating a new model of bookstores which will become a recreation center for families. I am sure such bookstores will contribute to the development of the entire business cycle – from printing to writers’ income, and the consumption of literature in general,” Armen Amiryan told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
The minister said they intend to initiate the plan as a pilot project in Yerevan to later apply it to the entire republic.
He added that they are also going to import software to digitalize literature, applying the best practices of world countries.
Asked whether the Ministry of Culture intends to undertake the elaboration of a law on theatre (which Armenia doesn’t have), Amiryan said he thinks that the issue needs a proper consideration. “Theatre requires a more creative approach as opposed to cinema which is a business. And a business needs to be given a chance to develop,” he noted.
