SUNY Poly seeks new proposals for Rensselaer riverfront
The request for proposals "seeks a qualified developer and/or construction contractor to develop a comprehensive initiative for a strategic research, technology outreach, business development, housing, and education and training partnership."
City officials, who have spent six months waiting for the project to move forward after an earlier SUNY Poly plan for the land was rebid, were glad to see movement again on a multimillion-dollar construction program that was first discussed nearly a year ago.
SUNY Poly's plans for projects around the state were halted last year after the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York City began investigating the Buffalo Billions revitalization project, which includes projects for several high-profile, high-tech companies, including IBM, Solar City and Albany Molecular Research Corp. SUNY Poly officials said the college is not a target of the investigation and has cooperated with investigators.
Previously, SUNY Poly's real estate arm, Fuller Road Management Corp., drafted plans for a three-phase construction of new student housing and a 650-space expansion of parking capacity in a neighborhood near the main campus on Washington Avenue in Albany.
