Polskie Radio Interview with Michal Baranowski

Michal Baranowski, director of GMF’s Warsaw office, discusses security in Europe in a radio interview with Polskie Radio. He explains that the United States decided to “come back” to Europe, as was demonstrated by U.S. President Obama who has increased funds for U.S. military activities by four times in Europe. It means the United States will get more involved in European security, which will also have an effect on Poland, and Polish-eastern flank security capabilities. The United States might be still investing its capabilities in the Pacific, but Russia is also very important. During February’s  defense ministerial meeting, NATO decided to increase its army presence in Poland and the region. 

There is also a growing competition between Russia and the United States in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. 

The U.S. elections: Michal Baranowski commented on the growing populist movement in the United States. He talks about U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump’s growing popularity, such as his win in Nevada. He explains the root of disillusionment of the U.S. society and points out possible consequences for Poland and Europe in case Trump wins the elections. foreign policy will cease to be important for the White House.
