Sexwale’s parting shot at Fifa
Before withdrawing from the Fifa presidential elections, Tokyo Sexwale reiterated his support for banned former president Sepp Blatter.
|||Johannesburg - Before he withdrew from the Fifa presidential elections, South African Tokyo Sexwale both sided with banned former president Sepp Blatter while citing the teachings of the late Nelson Mandela.
Blatter had been banned from any football-related activity (administrative, sports or other) at national and international level for a period of six years, but that did not stop Sexwale declaring his allegiances.
“I'm sorry about what happened to our friends Mr Blatter and others, he is our family, I hope they are able to solve their problems and one day we can see them as different people,” said Sexwale.
“Nelson Mandela taught us never to rejoice in the pain and misery of others.”
And despite starting out his speech by saying “I am a soldier and I die with my boots on”, he went on to say “I have got a surprise for you. My campaign ends today and I suspend my participation. With only four people it is your problem now.”
Sexwale did, however, make a call for Fifa's Task Force on Anti Racism to remain in place because “racism is going to be with us for a long, long time”. - African News Agency (ANA)
