Senate on Thursday, February 25 discovered a shortfall of five billion naira in the amount provided for meal subsidy for the Unity Schools across the country and personnel cost of Kings College in the 2016 budget proposal submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This was discovered during collation of the 2016 budget of Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education to the Senate Committee on Appropriation.
While presenting the report on the floor of the senate, Senator Rose Oko, the vice Chairman of the Committee on Education said that only 6.8 billion naira instead of 11 billion naira was proposed in the budget for meal subsidy in Unity school.

She said that the amount proposed is inadequate as it will only serve for six as 5 billion naira will be enough to cover the shortage.
However, the vice chairman informed the committee that 338 million naira was ommitted from the personnel cost of kings college adding that instead of 375 million naira, the ministry budgeted 37 million naira due to typographical error which bring about the shortfall of N338 million.
However, Senator Danjuma Goje , the Chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriation, assured that the committee would accommodate omission in the final budget.
He also said that the committee will try their best possible to get the 5 billion naira in order to cater for subsidy meals in Unity Schools and personnel cost at the kings college.
