Sanders spent heavily to get in the game, but winning the delegate battle still a challenge
Thanks to his massive grassroots support, Bernie Sanders actually outraised Hillary Clinton during the first two months of this year, and he used that money to go from sideshow to main stage in the Democratic primary. But that (successful) effort cost him serious resources—he outspent Clinton 3-1 on the air to run up the score in New Hampshire, and 2-1 in Nevada to prevent the blowout earlier polls suggested.
But that has left Sanders’ cash-on-hand at less than half what Clinton has, which has forced his campaign to make spending choices for the March 1 primaries.
Hillary Clinton and her allies are spending $4.1 million on ads in 11 Super Tuesday states, while Bernie Sanders is advertising in just five states at $3.3 million
