Breadwinner murdered for R2

|||Cape Town - A dad of four was stabbed to death while trying to protect his nephew from a knife-wielding teen after an argument over R2.
Relatives say Denzil Leaser, 31, was known as the peacemaker in his Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, community.
On Saturday at a park in Casino Street, he tried to break up a fight between his nephew and a 17-year-old-boy, when the boy allegedly turned on him and plunged the knife into his heart.
Family members believe the teen is behind bars, but police could not confirm this.
Resident Calvin Delpoort, 34, says Denzil tried to save his nephew.
“The [alleged] killer told the nephew to give him a R2 and when the nephew said he doesn’t have it, the [alleged] killer’s friend started the trouble and ran [toward them] with a [broken] bottleneck,” explains Calvin.
“Denzil was visiting a friend and when he came outside he saw what was happening in the jungle [park].
“Denzil stood between them and was pushing them apart.
“But the teen stabbed him in the shoulder, and as he went down, the second shot was in the heart.
“I was standing on the outskirts, and as I saw him going for the second shot, I raced to him, but the [alleged] killer’s friend saw me and stabbed me in the chest with a [broken] bottleneck.”
He says another man attacked the [alleged] stabber, injuring him and another person.
Calvin says his friend died a hero trying to save his family.
“Denzil was always the person trying to help and fix a situation,” he says.
“We can say he was a hero, because he prevented his nephew from being harmed.”
Denzil’s heartbroken wife, Kashiefa Leaser, 31, says her young children – aged 15, seven, six and two – are left without a father.
“He was the breadwinner, and he was the person who would do anything for the next person without asking,” says Kashiefa.
“Often I would tell him, ‘Leave that – it isn’t your business’.
“But I have no blame here, for what he did.”
Police spokesperson, Constable Noloyiso Rwexana says cops have made no arrests.
