Dasukigate: Unaccounted N500m election fund unsettle Edo PDP

– Crisis has hit Edo chapter of PDP over revelation of N500 million campaign fund link to $2.1 billion arms deal 

– The fund was paid by a chieftain of the PDP, Tony Anenih, for ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential campaign

– This revelation has created disaffection in the party state chapter as some members and leaders said they were not aware that such fund was released 

Crisis is brewing in Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party following the revelation on Tuesday, February 24, by members of the party that the leadership in the state led by Dan Orbih allegedly collected N500 million for the presidential election of former president Goodluck Jonathan without disclosing it.

It was learnt that base on investigation, the said N500 million was part of the $2.1 billion that was shared by the former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, Leadership reorts.

The alleged fund was said to have been paid into a company account belonging to the former chairman of PDP BoT, Tony Anenih.

Leadership reported that the investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) led the anti-graft agency to contact Orbih led executive to know if such amount was received in the state.

The Edo PDP leadership answered EFCC in affirmative saying that the amount was received and was disbursed to party executives and leaders across the 18 local government areas for Jonathan’s campaign.

It was further learnt that this revelation has generated anger among some members and leaders of PDP in the state who said they never knew that such money came in.

Base on this revelation, many members are now calling for the removal of Orbih led executive.

An aggrieved leader who does not want to be named said:  “We are petitioning the EFCC to also investigate how the money was disbursed in Edo state because we never knew about the money until we learnt from Orbih’s response to the EFCC that the money was received. So they should tell us who they gave the money to. We will formally address the media on this issue.”
