#MSN have magic in their DNA
MSN? Majestic. Scintillating. Naturally gifted. It's the abbreviation that's been on our lips all week: Messi, Suarez and Neymar.
|||London - MSN? Majestic. Scintillating. Naturally gifted. It’s the abbreviation that’s been on our lips all week: Messi, Suarez and Neymar.
Arsene Wenger may not have appreciated their presence on Tuesday night but the sight of the Three Amigos certainly whets the appetite.
Let’s not get used to it, though. Wenger, speaking on Monday, intimated the Premier League’s riches mean the arrival of such superstars is now a realistic possibility. For once Wenger is wrong. Surely not even Bill Gates could afford this version of MSN.
There is, as ever, logic behind Wenger’s opinion. The likes of Chelsea and both Manchester clubs certainly have the financial clout to pull off such a move. But do world football’s deadliest trio have the desire to spend the peak of their careers in the Premier League? Probably not. Whywould they? And that’s not being negative. England houses some of world football’s most recognisable faces, two were playing for Arsenal in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
South Americans, though, aspire to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid - dream of performing at the Nou Camp or Bernabeu. It’s written in their DNA.
A cold, windsweptnight at the Hawthorns probably wasn’t their childhood dream. Suarez has played for one of the biggest clubs in Europe in Liverpool. But as soon as Barcelona showed their hand he was off.
Pep Guardiola’s imminent arrival at the Etihad Stadium could alter that dynamicthis summer. Top players are drawn to top coaches, but the prospect of seeing Messi, Suarez or Neymar at a stadium near you is likely to remain a pipedream at best. Wenger might hope itstays that way.
