Shortly after midnight Eastern time, the networks and the Associated Press all called the Nevada GOP caucuses for Donald Trump. However, very few votes have actually been tallied, so we don’t know much more than that.
We do have entrance polls, finally, but those are notoriously subject to change. Right now, though, they point to a big Trump win. According to the entrance polls, Trump has 45, Marco Rubio 24, Ted Cruz 20, Ben Carson 5, and John Kasich 4.
If this holds up, that’s a plug-ugly night for everyone other than The Donald, though Beltway hacks will undoubtedly try to fluff Rubio as hard as they can. But no matter: This is a nice boost for Trump as we sail into Super Tuesday just a week from today, when about a dozen states will vote—and award a ton of delegates.
“Strong second"? Does Rubio think this is the Rio Olympics and that he gets to go home the proud owner of a silver medal?
A small number overall, but the psychological blow to the competition? Priceless.
From the bowels of the entrance polls comes this on-target observation:
As we saw with the Democratic caucuses, taking accurate entrance polls of Hispanics seems incredibly difficult. But Trump certainly won’t care—he’ll have his talking point. And a credulous press will probably run with it.
Hahahah:
Trump: "This guy—he lost to a computer. A computer! That's like my cell phone beating me in the caucuses. My phone could beat Jeb—but that’s an awful thing to say.”
We’re only at 8% reporting, but the results so far are pretty much in line with the entrance polls: Trump 44, Rubio 24, Cruz 21, Carson 6, and Kasich 4. How humiliating would it be for Kasich to finish behind Carson!
New thread here.
