ECHR sends questions to Azerbaijani over Arthur Badalyan v. Azerbaijan case
The European Court of Human Rights has sent questions to Azerbaijan over the Arthur Badalyan v. Azerbaijan case, Edmon Marukyan, Armenian lawmaker, member of the Council of "Center for Strategic Litigations" Human Rights NGO, has told ArmInfo.
On November 10, 2015 the ECHR took a decision to send questions to the Azerbaijani Government over the Arthur Badalyan case. The case was registered at the European Court of Human Rights in autumn 2011. The Vanadzor-based Populex Law Office submitted the application to the ECHR. Azerbaijan is to reply to the ECHR's questions no later than 8 March 2016.
The answers will be provided to the Armenian Government, which is a third party in the case.
To recall, on 9 May 2009, Arthur Badalyan, a resident of Haghartsin village (Tavush province of Armenia), lost his bearings in the forest and was captivated in Azerbaijan. Only half a year later, on 8 November 2010, Azerbaijan confirmed the fact that Badalyan was taken captive in Azerbaijan. On 17 March 2011, Badalyan was repatriated to Armenia. The Arthur Badalyan case is a blatant violation of the international law. Badalyan says that he underwent torture in Azerbaijan and this seriously harmed his health.
