Daily Kos Elections Nevada Democratic caucus liveblog #2
Nevada Democrats are holding their presidential caucuses today (the GOP’s caucus is on Tuesday), and we’re liveblogging the results. The caucus begins at 2 PM ET.
Results: AP (statewide) | AP (by county) | NYT | Politico
So far, we don’t have any results from today’s caucuses yet. We have some very preliminary entrance polls that suggest a small lead for Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders, but we can stress this enough: Entrance (and exit) polls almost always change as later waves of polling are included.
As we said, they were gonna change: The latest entrance poll update now gives Sanders a tiny lead. Previously, it was Clinton with the small edge. Link here.
An important observation from contributing editor David Beard: According to the early entrance polls, Clinton has a 55-42 lead with the 79 percent of caucus-goers who identify as Democrats. Sanders has a 77-18 advantage with the 20 percent who say they are independents. For upcoming states with closed primaries (i.e., those that only let registered Democrats vote), that disparity could have a real impact.
There are reports that workers trying to caucus might get demerits from their employers for missing time. Perhaps they might even get docked pay. No matter what happens results-wise today, Clinton and Sanders need to unite tomorrow to pressure employers not to dock anyone’s pay or give out any demerits for those who tried to caucus but faced long lines and absurd delays.
So in 2008, the last time Nevada Dems had a contested caucus, we had the first results by about 3:11 PM ET, according to our liveblog back then. It's now 4 PM ET and we have nothing to report.
We finally have the first results. With 12% reporting, it’s a virtual 50-50 tie between Sanders and Clinton, per the NV Dems’ official site. Clinton has a lead of two county convention delegates, 424 to 422.
