"Strong Armenia" to hold unity rally
ArmInfo. The changes to the Electoral Code were not discussed by any of the parties and are being introduced at the request of one person, one political party, which is clearly illegal. Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan stated this in a video address, commenting on the adopted amendments to the RA Electoral Code, initiated by the ruling party "Civil Contract."
He expressed confidence that the Armenian public has drawn certain conclusions based on a number of facts.
Vardevanyan announced a rally for the "Strong Armenia" party, which will take place on April 11 at Freedom Square under the slogan "Unity Rally." "We must put an end to the division in our society that has been initiated by the current authorities. Everyone's participation is important," he emphasized.
As a reminder, today, the Armenian Parliament, at an extraordinary session, adopted amendments to the Electoral Code, which prohibit the use of proper names in the names of parties and blocs.
In this regard, it is worth noting that on March 31, the Strong Armenia party announced that it would participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections as part of the "Strong Armenia with Samvel Karapetyan" bloc. Literally the following day, the ruling party convened an extraordinary session to discuss the amendments to the Electoral Code.
According to legal expert Gohar Meloyan, in a state governed by the rule of law, public hearings with the participation of professional circles are required to implement such changes in accordance with international standards. Specifically, according to international practice,
the Venice Commission's recommendations to Armenia suggest that the rules of the game be changed at least one year before the elections.
