Commander of Sisakan unit, transferred to Vardashen prison
ArmInfo. Legendary commander of the Sisakan unit, Ashot Minasyan (better known as "Ashot Yerkat" (Iron)) was transferred from the Sisian police station to Vardashen prison. Opposition MP Garnik Danielyan from the Armenia bloc wrote about this on his Facebook page.
The MP noted that this is not the first political persecution of the commander. He pointed out that under the current government, patriots of the country are persecuted and imprisoned on various trumped-up charges.
"Talking with Ashot Minasyan, one can sense his deep grief over the loss of Artsakh. The authorities are currently attempting to imprison a commander who made an invaluable contribution to the Artsakh war and earned the nickname 'Yerkat' on charges of illegal arms trafficking. The commander of the 'Sisakan' unit is one of those beloved heroes about whom films have been made and songs written. He writes poetry. As he likes to say, 'We are unbreakable, especially the people of Syunik.' Freedom for the legendary commander, freedom for political prisoners!" the opposition leader wrote.
As a reminder, on October 16, Ashot Minasyan was sentenced to two years in prison by a court decision. A public criminal prosecution was initiated against Ashot Minasyan for allegedly illegally acquiring, transporting, and storing weapons in a building he owned and operated near a restaurant complex on Israelyan Street in Sisian. Ashot Minasyan is the commander of the legendary Sisakan unit, which made an invaluable contribution to the victories in Nagorno-Karabakh. He denies any wrongdoing. Opposition figures are inclined to believe that Minasyan is being subjected to political persecution for his patriotic views.
