Bollywood has seen several bold actresses who have shown no qualms in performing daring naked scenes on the big screen. While some movies have had to be banned for being 'too bold' for Indian viewers, this actress - despite being fearless in her approach to the sequence - was also graceful. We are talking about Simi Grewal who carved a niche for herself in the industry through her dedicated efforts and acting prowess. She became a known figure in Bollywood with her debut in the film Raat Ki Baat in 1962. After that film, Simi never looked back and worked in several films that helped her gain popularity.

Simi's career in acting gained momentum after her film Mera Naam Joker (1970), wherein she played a role that called for a bold, nude scene. The actress had performed a naked scene where she was seen bathing - sans her clothes - in river. To ensure it didn't look vulgar, Raj Kapoor chose to shoot the scene from a long distance. In the film, Simi Garewal played a boarding school teacher. Rishi Kapoor (14) was also roped in to play the younger version of his father Raj Kapoor. He was seen to be infatuated with her. The scene was important as it helped the protagonist realise his sexual desires.

Simi Garewal also appeared naked in and topless in the Indo-American production Siddhartha, where she shared the screen space with Shashi Kapoor.

The film was based on Hermann Hesse's 1922 novel of the same name. It had bagged the Silver Lion Award at the Venice film festival. While the CBFC had banned the film, it got positive reviews by the American audience. The film revolved around the journey of a man, who makes a consiciosu decision to shift from materialism to asceticism. Simi had essayed the role of a courtesan named Kamala in the film, taught "the protagonist the pleasure of life and love".

According to reports, Simi was just 17 when she got in a serious relationship with Shatrusalyasinhji, the Maharaja of Jamnagar. Their romance lasted for three years but ended. Later, Simi was linked to cricket legend Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the Nawab of Pataudi. However, their relationship ended when he fell for actress Sharmila Tagore and married her.

Simi is also connected to Bollywood as she is the first cousins with Pamela Chopra. Hence, she is the aunt of filmmakers Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra.
