Women to do voluntary military service in Armenia 

ArmInfo.Women will be called up on a voluntary basis in Armenia.  Armenia's Cabinet approved a  proposal by the Ministry of Defense on Friday. 

Armenia's Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan stated that the relevant  amendments to the Law on Defense and Law on Military Service and  Status of Servicemen regulate the relations involving voluntary  military service for women and other issues. 

"Women wishing to serve in the army may apply to military  registration and enlistment offices before March 1 or before October  1 each year," the minister said. 

Women will do their military service only in military schools. After  6-month training courses, they can serve on a voluntary basis under  the Homeland Defender programme for 5 years.
