At Imgur office in S.F.’s Jackson Square, image is everything
When it came to decorating Imgur’s Jackson Square office, the image-sharing website turned to gifts from users.
Most gifts are sent to Schaaf’s sister, Sarah Schaaf, who interacts with users in her role as Imgur’s community manager.
Imgur users, or Imgurians, use the website and mobile app to vote (up or down) on viral images.
On any given day, you’ll see cat gifs, political statements, news and pop culture references.
The company moved to its new office after outgrowing a space at Fifth and Market streets that had brick walls and wood floors.
Employees work in an open office floor plan.
Several workers have umbrellas over their desks to shield their computer screens from the bright skylights.
There are no offices; conference rooms, which line each wall, are named after coding puns, Star Wars and scientists.
The third floor has gathering areas, including a lunch and playroom known as Sweet Max’s, with a pool table, a pingpong table and shuffleboard.
A smaller room is used for playing video games and, every other Wednesday, group meditation.
“Imgur allows you to log on and break outside of that, discover new people and discover new interests and everything else that’s happening in the world,” he said.
