CHP officers go on roundup of horses on I-680 near Walnut Creek
Two horses made a sudden break for freedom from a Contra Costa County stable Monday morning, galloping through suburban streets before making a wrong turn onto Interstate 680. The straying steeds trotted through the streets of Alamo just after 7 a.m. for around 20 minutes, said Officer Rick Rohrback of the California Highway Patrol’s Contra Costa County division. All northbound lanes of I-680 were closed for about 15 minutes to apprehend the delinquent horses, he said. The CHP, along with Walnut Creek police officers and Contra Costa County Animal Services, corralled both horses after an extended low-speed chase around 8:30 a.m., he said.
