Soggy Sunday giving way to warm, dry week in the Bay Area
Scattered rain showers Sunday, forecast to total less than a quarter of an inch, were expected to give way to mostly sunny weather by Monday that should stick around all week, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday’s “kind of sporadic” showers and high of 59 degrees in San Francisco will be replaced by clearing skies and higher temperatures.
In the Sierra, Sunday’s storm was forecast to add 3 to 6 inches to a snowpack that is already 160 percent of average in a season that is chasing precipitation records.
In early March, snow throughout the Sierra reached 185 percent of normal, a surprising and welcome figure after years of drought and scant snow accumulations that had surveyors double-checking their gauges.
The Sunday storm could exceed more than 6 inches of snow across the Sierra’s highest peaks into Monday, said Robert Baruffaldi, a forecaster with the weather service based in Sacramento.
Around Lake Tahoe, the high temperature by Wednesday is expected to reach 55 degrees with sunny skies.
