Crews make progress against Northern California wildfire
By Dan Whitcomb LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Crews began to make headway on Tuesday against a Northern California wildfire that has destroyed more than 175 homes and businesses, a day after authorities arrested a man on suspicion of setting that blaze and numerous others in the area over the past year. The so-called Clayton Fire, named for the creek near where it broke out, was 20 percent contained as of Tuesday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The conflagration is one of two dozen major wildfires across the drought-parched U.S. West that have blackened nearly 300,000 acres.
