Fly away with San Francisco Aerial Arts Festival
For the biennial San Francisco Aerial Arts Festival, Zaccho Dance Theatre brings 14 groups together at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture for a weekend of indoor and outdoor aerial performances.
Influences range from dance to circus to Burning Man, with participants like Capacitor, whose shows are inspired by the patterns in the natural world; Flyaway Productions, whose work focuses on the female body and has a strong social justice component; and Karl Gillick, who before he was an aerialist was “a tree canopy biologist and rock climbing guide.”
Host organization Zaccho Dance Theatre specializes in site-specific work; its superhuman performers have scaled the sides of clock towers, airports and streetcars.
