Choral Society tackles Verdi’s Requiem
Among the great works of the choral repertoire, the Verdi Requiem stands out for its combination of thunderous power (no one who has once heard the “Dies Irae” movement ever quite forgets it) and lyrical intimacy.
Written to commemorate two transformative Italian artists, Rossini and the novelist Alessandro Manzoni, the piece stands as a testament to Verdi’s mature genius.
Orchestral accompaniment is by the California Chamber Symphony.
