When did gold medals become biscuits?
For some unknown reason, Olympians have formed the habit of biting the gold medal as soon as they are being awarded.
We understand that winners are always excited after winning the competition but biting the gold medal is a different ball game entirely. Trying to find the reason why gold medalists bite their own medals is a bit unsettling; winning the Olympics will no doubt change the fortune of the winner as he or she could afford to eat in the best restaurants in the world.

However, this old habit of Olympians will make one wonder why they always bite the gold medal like it was some sort of snack. Ordinarily, one would expect the gold medals to be cherished and adored by these winners. Instead, we find it really odd that they would place the medals in their mouths and bite it.
Kissing the medal is acceptable but biting it is really weird and unorthodox. The gold medals used decades back were made from pure and unadulterated gold. However, the quality of these medals has reduced as the gold medals used for the 2016 Olympics are said to be made of barely eight percent gold.
Now that it has been established that the gold medal is no longer made of pure gold, it would be super nice for the winners to change this tradition and not turn the medal to some cookie. The gold part of the medal would after all not be melted in order for it to be sold for cash.
Winners would not trade the gold medal for money as it would always serve as some memorabilia for the player.
Biting of the gold medal was the archaic way of testing the purity of the medal. When an object made from pure gold is being bitten, the teeth marks show on it. Players only believe in the originality of the gold medals they receive as soon as they see the indents their teeth made on them.
There was an Olympic incident when David Moeller, an Olympian, got his tooth chipped off while trying to bite his silver medal. Even though this biting of the gold medal was first done in 1896, players have not stopped biting the medals.
Photographers particularly think it is cute having the winners pose with their gold medals in their mouths. They have their photo sessions after the medal ceremony and psyche the winners to do it for them.
There is absolutely no point biting the gold medals again since they are not made of pure gold. Olympians also have to be careful so they do not chip off their tooth while trying to stick to the tradition.
