|||Cape Town – A contingent of South African investors and exporters recently visited Cuba, where they found attractive investment options.
The Caribbean island nation is fast becoming an attractive investment destination.
South Africans looking for new horizons to invest in are urged to consider Cuba, said the Department of Trade and Industry (Dti) on Thursday.
“There is no better time to invest in Cuba than now,” said South African deputy minister of Trade and Industry Mwandile Masina.
The minister’s call to action comes as a contingent of investors and exporters participate in the Havana International Trade Fair taking place this week. The trade fair attracts over 3 000 companies from over 70 countries.
Masina said: “I can safely say to the people of South Africa in general and the businesspeople in particular that Cuba is fast developing and the time to come and invest in this country is now.”
He spoke about opportunities being identified in the fast developing island nation and said South African companies “should not be left behind, they need to act now.”
Investment opportunities identified by the Dti are in the tourism, construction, infrastructure development, agro-processing, renewable energy, transportation and healthcare sectors.
South Africa and Cuba have strengthened bilateral trade agreements between the two countries.
Masina said: “We would like to encourage and assist South African companies to take advantage of these opportunities by establishing joint-ventures and partnerships with the Cubans”.
