On cut-down day, Raiders keep backup quarterback McGloin
Quarterback Matt McGloin added another notch to his belt Saturday. The former undrafted free agent out of Penn State made the Raiders’ roster for a third straight year, this time beating out Christian Ponder for the right to back up Derek Carr.
Ponder had history with new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave from their days with the Vikings, and the Raiders gave him a $1.5 million signing bonus in March. Then the coaches had him play ahead of McGloin every day in training camp and every game in the preseason.
But in the end, Ponder joined Matt Flynn, draft pick Tyler Wilson, Terrelle Pryor and Matt Schaub as quarterbacks with tickets out of town the past two years.
