Giants’ Christian Arroyo to miss 2 months with broken hand
PITTSBURGH - In a stroke of bad fortune, Triple-A third baseman Christian Arroyo will be out for at least two months after he sustained a broken left hand when hit by a pitch Saturday in his first game back from another pitch-induced hand injury.
The fracture occurred on the third metacarpal in the middle of the hand.
Arroyo was on the Sacramento disabled list for more than two weeks after the same hand was bruised by a pitch at Las Vegas on June 14.
Arroyo rejoined the lineup Saturday and was taking his second at-bat against Fresno, the Astros' top farm club, when right-hander Dean Deetz hit him on the hand.
Witnesses say Arroyo slammed his bat and helmet to the ground in anger.
Arroyo was the Giants' top hitting prospect when he was brought to the majors in April 24 amid a team hitting slump.
[...] 21, Arroyo made an immediate impact with several big hits, including three home runs, but was optioned back to Sacramento June 3 after a prolonged slump dropped his average to .192.
Bochy said he hopes Arroyo can return in September and get some big-league time before the season ends.
