Liverpool legend predicts how many trophies Arsenal will win this season
Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has predicted how many trophies Arsenal could win this season.
The Gunners have had a tremendous campaign under manager Mikel Arteta, and they are still competing on four fronts.
The club recently progressed to the last eight of the FA Cup after a closely fought 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town.
Speaking after the game on TNT Sports, McManaman said that Arsenal may end up with two trophies this term.
The 54-year-old feels the Gunners will secure the Premier League title alongside a domestic Cup.
He said (via BBC Sport): “I think Arsenal will win two trophies this season – the league and a domestic cup.”
Arsenal could end up with two trophies
The Gunners recently received a huge boost in their league title pursuit after Manchester City’s surprise 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on the road on the same night, and they now have a seven-point lead over the Cityzens.
Man City, who are second in the standings, have an extra game to play, but the Gunners have their title destiny in their hands for their final eight matches.
Hence, Arsenal look best-placed to end their 22-year-long wait for the English crown.
Alongside the league title, a Cup success seems a possibility. They have the best chance to do so by beating Man City in the League Cup final later this month.
Arsenal fans would no doubt love to celebrate a Champions League trophy, but there is a long way to go in the competition where the club have a favourable draw.
As McManaman said, Arsenal look well placed to secure a league and Cup double this campaign. Champions League glory would be the cherry on the top moment.
