Dutch defender urges Arsenal to enjoy title race after Chelsea win
Jurrien Timber has called on his teammates at Arsenal to enjoy the moment as the Gunners continue their push for the Premier League title following a crucial victory over Chelsea.
The Dutch defender was on target as Arsenal secured a hard-fought 2–1 win at the Emirates Stadium, a result that strengthened their position at the top of the league table.
The victory moved Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand.
The two title rivals are scheduled to meet at the Etihad Stadium in April in a fixture that could prove decisive in the race for the crown.
Speaking after the London Derby, Timber stressed the importance of embracing the title challenge.
“We have to enjoy it. It is a privilege to be standing here with my teammates fighting for this title. It is a beautiful place,” Timber said. “There are nine games to go, but we have to go game by game. Hopefully, there will be something beautiful at the end of it.”
The Dutch defender also felt Arsenal were worthy winners despite going into the break level.
“We deserved to win this game,” he added. “In the first half we didn’t give much away and it was a shame we went back to the dressing room at 1-1, but we finished it off in the second half.
Both of Arsenal’s goals came from corner situations, an area Timber believes is crucial to the Gunners’ attacking effectiveness.
“Corners became an important part of the game,” he said. “Teams are focusing on it more and that is in our advantage.”
The 24-year-old, who is a key figure for the Gunners, has contributed at both ends of the pitch, registering three goals and five assists in 28 league appearances this season.
With momentum building and the title race entering its decisive phase, the Dutch international will be hoping to maintain his strong form as Arsenal chase their first league triumph in over two decades.
