Kazakhstan's population as of March 1, 2026 announced
Tengrinews.kz — The Bureau of National Statistics has announced the population of Kazakhstan as of March 1, 2026.
According to the statistical data, Kazakhstan’s population stood at 20,532,240 people as of March 1, 2026. Since the beginning of 2026, the population has increased by 32,418 people.
The population has exceeded 2 million in:
Turkestan Region — 2,146,739 people (although since the beginning of the year the region’s population has decreased by 2,466 people);Almaty — 2,354,736 people (the population increased by 6,633 people).
More than 1 million people live in:
Astana — 1,655,369;
Almaty Region — 1,603,496;
Shymkent — 1,300,357;
Zhambyl Region — 1,214,965;
Karaganda Region — 1,131,613.
The least populated regions are:
Ulytau Region — 218,596;
North Kazakhstan Region — 513,386;
Abai Region — 594,766.
As of March 1, 2026, 13,120,922 people lived in urban areas (an increase of 35,812 people), while 7,411,318 people lived in rural areas (a decrease of 3,394 people).
