Romano: Arsenal plan one more signing after £63.4m deal, £68m star is an option
Arsenal are considering the possibility of signing another attacking player this summer.
The Gunners have had a productive transfer window. They have already confirmed four new signings.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke have joined the club.
It is only a matter of time before Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres follow suit.
Arsenal ended the long transfer saga on Gyokeres yesterday. They are set to pay £63.4 million including add-ons for the Sweden international, who will fly to Singapore for his medical.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Arsenal are not done yet in the transfer window. They are considering the possibility of adding another offensive player before the deadline.
Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze remains a strong option for the Gunners with contact already made with his agents. The club have yet to make a formal approach to the Eagles.
RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons has been on the club’s radar, but Chelsea are now pushing to sign him.
Arsenal could make late summer swoop for Eze
The England international has improved with every season at Palace. He was exceptional for the south London outfit last term, registering 14 goals and 11 assists.
Eze also scored the FA Cup-winning goal against Manchester City. Palace won their first major trophy as a result and they are set to play European football next season.
Palace could be involved in the Europa League or Conference League based on the final verdict of their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport earlier this month.
Still, Eze could head for the exit door with the prospect of playing Champions League football with the Gunners. He was previously in the academy before being released at just 13.
Eze has verbally agreed personal terms with Arsenal, but the big question remains whether the club will proceed with a formal proposal to land his signature this summer.
He has a release clause worth £68 million in his contract that can be paid in three instalments of £20m plus £8m in add-ons. Arsenal may obviously seek a discount and longer payment terms.
A deal could depend on funds recouped from player sales. The likes of Oleksandro Zinchenko, Reiss Nelson, Karl Hein and Fabio Vieira are poised to be offloaded by the Gunners.
Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior could also head for the exit door this summer. A move for Eze could be made during the final days of the transfer window based on incoming funds.
Eze is primarily an attacking midfielder, but can also operate from the left wing. He likes to play as a left-sided number 10 which would provide a different dimension to Arsenal’s attack.
His dribbling skills and direct runs against opponents would be relishing to watch at Arsenal. The player has given the green light for a transfer. The onus is on the Gunners to seal a deal.
