'Malcolm in the Middle' Star Frankie Muniz Crashes NASCAR Truck in Race
Frankie Muniz was in the middle of hot water on Friday night. The Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair star participated in the Tennessee Army National Guard 250 on the Bristol Motor Speedway. A NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racer, Muniz drove his Ford F-150 with the Malcolm in the Middle logo emblazoned on the hood. During the race, Muniz crashed his truck. Fortunately, he walked away unscathed, but he did not finish the race. He received a DNF status in the final results. (Christopher Bell won the race, driving for Halmar Friesen Racing.)
The wreck involved fellow racers Tyler Reif and Timmy Hill, both of whom were also taken out of the race. Reif drove a Chevrolet Silverado RST while Hill was behind the wheel of a Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Deadlinereports that Muniz and Reif had a heated exchange following the crash, with the actor and racer claiming that Reif was "yelling" at him and calling him a "lapper," insinuating that he shouldn't race.
"I'm fighting. I belong on that racetrack just as much as he does, just as much as the leaders do. And I'm not going to back down on that. I haven't seen a replay, but based on what I felt, I went to the middle of the track. I didn't track all the way out to show that I was going to go back to the bottom," Muniz told Fox Sports.
As for his performance, Muniz had this to say:
"I actually thought we were running pretty good. I felt pretty quick. We were in the lucky dog position, so I was just trying to do some good lap times. I think there was like 10 to go on the stage."
Muniz pursued a racing career in 2008, but he continued appearing in projects like Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, Preacher, and Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens over the years. However, Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair marks his first leading role in a TV series since the original show's run.
