Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid meets China envoy, stresses security, regional stability
Afghanistan’s Taliban Defence Minister, Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, held talks with China’s ambassador to Kabul, Zhao Xing, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional developments. The meeting highlights growing diplomatic engagement between the two sides amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in the region.
According to Enayatullah Khwarazmi, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Defence Ministry, the discussions covered security cooperation, political ties, and recent regional developments.
Both sides reportedly explored ways to enhance coordination on shared concerns, particularly in maintaining stability and preventing security threats across borders.
During the meeting, the Chinese ambassador outlined Beijing’s position regarding the Urumqi talks and reiterated China’s readiness to expand future cooperation with Afghanistan. He emphasized the importance of dialogue-based approaches and expressed support for initiatives aimed at fostering long-term regional peace and economic collaboration.
Mujahid underlined that following the consolidation of internal security in Afghanistan, regional stability has become a key priority for the Taliban leadership. He stressed that dialogue remains the most effective solution to regional challenges, while also reaffirming the group’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty.
He further noted that the Taliban’s approach is based on patience, mutual respect, and understanding, but added that defending the country against any form of aggression remains a legitimate right and national responsibility. Both sides concluded by emphasizing the need to strengthen mutual trust, deepen bilateral cooperation, and expand regional partnerships.
