Reviews for the Final Season of 'The Boys' Are In
Amazon Prime Video's The Boys debuted in 2019 and will conclude with its fifth season, which premieres April 8. The wildly popular superhero show, which is based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, will look to wrap up the story of characters like Homelander, Billy Butcher and the rest of the Boys in a way that will satisfy fans. Two days before the first two episodes release, critic reviews for the first seven of eight episodes have arrived.
After three seasons that were universally beloved by fans, Season 4 faced a split reception among viewers. The Boys Season 4 received its lowest audience rating of the show’s run, coming in at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. Some fans criticized the show, created by Eric Kripke, for losing subtlety with what it was previously praised for handling well, like political satire and graphic violence. Unlike audiences, critics still commended the season, as it currently stands at 92% on the Tomatometer. Even with differing opinions, Season 4 featured two of the show’s highest all-time user-rated episodes on IMDb. Episode 4, “Wisdom of the Ages,” received an 8.9/10, and Episode 8, the season finale, is currently a 9.1/10 on IMDb.
Fans who were not as happy with Season 4 are hoping the show’s conclusion will return to its former glory and go out on top.
