Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ Named the Most-Played Song of the 2010s
First released on November 21, 2013, Pharrell Williams' song 'Happy' exploded to become a massive hit. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and held the top spot for 10 weeks, which was a staggering achievement on its own. Even more remarkably, it spent a total of 48 weeks on the chart, meaning it was one of the nation's top songs for nearly a full year.
Beyond the charts, 'Happy' became a television and radio staple. In April 2020, Forbes noted that a study from the music listening company PPL (Phonographic Performance Ltd) named 'Happy' the most-played song of the 2010s in the United Kingdom. It reached that conclusion after studying the tracks that were played on the radio and television in the U.K. over the previous 10 years. Analysts noted that 'Happy' was also likely to be one of the most-played songs during that decade across many other countries around the world.
Recording 'Happy' also brought Williams major accolades. According to the Grammy Awards' website, he has been nominated 43 times and won 14 Grammys throughout his career. During the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, he won Best Music Video and Best Pop Solo Performance for 'Happy.'
