Tottenham players let fans down after pre-match support

Tottenham Hotspur’s winless run in 2026 in the Premier League continued in their relegation six-pointer clash with Nottingham Forest.

Viktor Pereira’s side inflicted a painful 3-0 defeat in front of a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leaving fans deflated.

It was a big game for Spurs, and it was clear it mattered to the fans, who created a hostile atmosphere. Before the game, there was a coach meet where Tottenham fans turned up in numbers to welcome the players.

Inside the stadium, the ground was rocking as Spurs fans looked to galvanise their side, but in the end, they were let down by a group of players who seemed to lose their way after going a goal down despite first-half dominance.

Relegation battle worsens after defeat

That defeat is a massive one for Tottenham in the context of their season. It was a relegation six-pointer, a game that allowed Spurs to take points off their rivals.

Tottenham, however, failed to capitalise, and the defeat now leaves them firmly in the relegation scrap.

They now move to 17th place, having held on to 16th for a long time. That loss sees Forest leap above them into 16th, opening a two-point lead.

Spurs can, however, take some solace from the fact that West Ham United lost 2-0 to Aston Villa, a result that keeps Tottenham just above the drop zone.

Bench strength fails to make impact

There was plenty of reason to be optimistic coming into this match, with Spurs finally having a strong bench to call on.

For most of the season, Tottenham have dealt with an injury crisis and have been stretched, but this time it was different, with the likes of Joao Palhinha, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Dominic Solanke, Lucas Bergvall, Destiny Udogie and Conor Gallagher all returning.

But that made little difference, as Tottenham were still well beaten despite the return of key players.

Archie Gray shows leadership despite defeat

While the rest of the squad looked below par, Archie Gray remained one of the few positives.

The youngster continues to give everything on the pitch, and it is clear how much he has developed in a Tottenham shirt.

This is not to say he is the finished article, as there are still aspects of his game to improve.

The 20-year-old, for the second game running, failed to deal well with set plays, and today’s mistake proved costly as Igor Jesus was left unmarked for the opener.

Regardless, he has shown leadership traits, often demanding the ball and looking to make things happen from deep.

He showed his quality and range of passing and could have had an assist had Mathys Tel converted in the first half. The youngster, alongside Tel, was one of the few bright sparks.

For sure, no one will raise an eyebrow if he were made captain, given his performances this season.

Tottenham face key decision on Igor Tudor

Another positive is the break of at least two weeks. The fans need it, as the relentless run of football has brought little joy, given Spurs’ winless 2026 run, and we are now in March.

Tottenham have also managed just two wins from their last 21 matches. With form like this, the international break has come at the right time.

It is a chance to rest and reset, while also allowing the club to make a decision on Igor Tudor, who is under pressure following the defeat against Forest.

Reports have suggested a deadline on a decision on Tudor’s future was set for this Nottingham Forest clash, and with defeat the outcome, his position is uncertain.

Spurs could also welcome Mohammed Kudus back during this break, as Tudor revealed he was ten days away before the Forest game, and his return could provide a boost.
