Karzai Condemns Pakistan Airstrikes on Kabul Civilians
Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai condemned Pakistan’s heavy airstrikes on Kabul on Monday night, March 16, targeting residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure.
Karzai warned that continued Pakistani attacks would not achieve their objectives and would ultimately harm Pakistan itself, escalating regional tensions further.
He emphasized that the strikes hit homes, hospitals, and other non-military sites, causing significant human and financial losses among civilians in Kabul.
Karzai urged Pakistan to reconsider its policies and engage with Afghanistan under principles of good-neighborliness and civilized diplomatic relations to ensure regional stability.
Abdullah Abdullah, former Chief Executive of Afghanistan, also denounced the strikes, calling them “unjustifiable attacks on civilians” and urging the international community to intervene to protect citizens of Afghanistan.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the wave of attacks in Kabul, claiming that a drug rehabilitation hospital was specifically targeted during the strikes.
Meanwhile, Pakistan claimed that it has conducted repeated cross-border air and artillery strikes, citing Taliban strongholds, resulting in growing civilian casualties in Kabul and eastern provinces.
The airstrikes highlight the urgent need for diplomatic dialogue between Kabul and Islamabad, as continued military aggression risks further civilian suffering and long-term destabilization in Afghanistan.
