Tottenham suspension drama continues as senior star is set to miss crucial knockout tie
Things are about to get even harder for Igor Tudor as he is set to be without another key Tottenham man for the return leg against Atletico Madrid.
The Croatian coach has not had it easy in his first few weeks at Spurs, having had to work with an extremely depleted squad and continuing to lose key players to injuries.
Cristian Romero played under Tudor for the first time against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, but Romero and Joao Palhinha could both miss the Liverpool clash after suffering a head collision during the 5-2 defeat.
Eight other Spurs players are out with medium to long-term injuries, and it has now been confirmed that another senior man will miss the second leg next week.
Richarlison is suspended for Tottenham’s second leg against Atletico Madrid
Spurs are all but out of the Champions League after their 5-2 loss on Tuesday, which means that they would have to win by at least three goals in the second leg to take the game to extra time.
To make matters worse, Tottenham will have to achieve that without their top scorer this season.
This is because Richarlison picked up his third yellow card of the Champions League campaign during the loss at the Spanish capital, which means that he will have to sit out the return leg in London.
Spurs are down to the bare bones ahead of their trip to Liverpool
Tudor now faces the prospect of going to Anfield with both of his first-choice centre-backs unavailable following Romero’s collision with Palhinha.
This is because Micky van de Ven will have to serve a one-match suspension in the Premier League following his red card against Crystal Palace.
The Lilywhites may be forced to start with a pairing of Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin at the back in Merseyside, and Spurs fans will fear that the scoreline could get ugly.
