Cyprus businesses to be briefed on EU carbon border mechanism
The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) will organise an information seminar in Nicosia on March 19, focusing on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and its impact on importers.
The event, titled “CBAM in Practice What Importers Need to Know Today”, will examine obligations, procedures, compliance and sustainability issues linked to the European Union’s carbon border policy.
The seminar is being organised by Keve in cooperation with Enterprise Europe Network Cyprus, the Department of Environment Cyprus and the Cyprus Customs Department.
According to the organisers, the aim is to inform businesses about new European requirements affecting imports from third countries.
The event will take place between 08.30 and 13.30 at the Keve building in Nicosia, on the first floor of the chamber’s premises.
During the seminar, officials from the Department of Environment and the Customs Department will present the regulatory framework governing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
They will also explain the obligations that apply to importers under the new EU system.
The presentations will further address the practical implementation of CBAM through examples of actual imports.
Officials will additionally outline the customs procedures and compliance controls linked to the mechanism.
The seminar is particularly aimed at businesses involved in importing products covered by CBAM regulations.
These include imports such as cement, aluminium, iron, steel, electricity and fertilisers.
The event is also expected to attract business consultants and compliance officers involved in regulatory and environmental matters.
Participants are required to complete online registration for the seminar by March 17, 2026.
