Harry Styles Just Crashed 'SNL' in the Most Hilarious Way Possible
During his opening monologue on Saturday Night Liveon March 7, Ryan Gosling suddenly gave the spotlight away to...Harry Styles. Though Gosling is obviously ridiculously popular, his opening monologue asked a more crucial question: Can you compete with Harry Styles? Is Styles cooler than Golsing?
As Gosling's monologue began, the camera revealed Styles in the audience. Why? Styles is hosting SNL next week on March 14, and the joke was that he was just there to listen to get a feel for doing SNL again. But, as the camera kept panning to Styles, Gosling begged: "Can you listen less cool?"
Quickly, this bit escalated and resulted in Gosling admitting that he was supposed to sing the song "Sign of the Times," as it's a part of the new film Project Hail Mary. But, of course, that's Harry Styles track. Even though the song features in Project Hail Mary, Gosling singing the song in front of Styles wasn't exactly as exciting as Styles singing it himself. Gosling did attempt to remind the audience that he is the guy who sang "I'm Just Ken," way back at the 2024 Oscars. In a sense, Gosling was making fun of the fact that he might not ever be able to top that moment.
Clearly, Gosling is a confident enough guy to make his entire opening monologue a joke about himself and a compliment to someone else. Styles may be a great pop star, but Gosling is pretty damn cool. And if Project Hail Mary is even half as good as early buzz, and even a third as good as the novel by Andy Weir, it's going to be totally "amaze." If you don't get that reference yet, you will very soon.
